Being denied Holy Communion over changing the definition of marriage doesn't bother Paul Martin or many other self-styled Catholic politicians, but the prospect of a Christmastime campaign has finally made him and the Liberals come to Jesus!

Prime Minister Paul Martin warned the three opposition leaders today that they could offend religious and ethnic groups by forcing an election over the holiday season.

Martin told reporters en route to this port city for an Asian Pacific summit that the timetable he set for an election in March or April would allow Christians and Canadians of other religious faiths to celebrate their religious holidays without interruption from politicians knocking on their doors.

"When you are talking about the holiday season, there are also other religions that have different New Year's at different dates and their holidays at a different date and I think we have to be respectful of that -- the orthodox churches, for example," he said.

"It's up to the opposition. I don't want a Christmas election."

Remember this moment, folks. This is the first, and possibly last, time that you will ever hear a Liberal politician publicly express concern that the party's actions might cause offence to Christian believers.

But perhaps the Liberals too may hope for a Christmas miracle of their own, as they anxiously scan the night sky for a star in the east to lead them to their party's saviour.

Though they will not find him, the wise guys will still come bearing gifts of gold picked from our very own pockets, frankincense to cover the stench of their corruption, and myrrh to embalm the corpse of their government.

But we'll still get treated like we were all born in a barn.

The Reason Of The Clerks

Even though the public service has become more politicized during the Liberals' long regime, there are still many top mandarins, current and retired, who are unafraid to challenge their political masters in defence of the public service's interests.

At least one former deputy minister has enough courage (that comes with a secure pension) to speak out against the culture of corruption that pervades the government:

Prime Minister Paul Martin's Liberal government is plagued by rock-bottom morale, excessive spending aimed at bribing Canadians, and a string of "stupid" and "foolish" decisions that aren't in the public interest, senior federal bureaucrats were told at a private conference last week.

The grim message came from former deputy minister Harry Swain, who said the federal bureaucracy is being driven to "breakdown" by unnecessary and costly rules brought in by Martin leading up to Justice John Gomery's report on the sponsorship scandal.

"Ridiculous and surreal impositions are raining on the public service from management theorists and politicians -- sometimes the same person -- seeking to bury Gomery," Swain, now executive director of the Canadian Institute for Climate Studies at the University of Victoria, told the bureaucrats.

Swain, according to a copy of his speech obtained Wednesday by The Vancouver Sun, noted that Auditor-General Sheila Fraser had said the sponsorship mess was caused by the breaking -- not absence -- of rules.

"Two hundred and thirty-eight new rules, plus legions of comptrollers and auditors, will not prevent malfeasance if a prime minister decides that a higher cause justifies playing fast and loose with the rules."

Swain has hit the nail on the head: the Liberals don't care about the rules. New rules to prevent corrupt practice are not intended to work: they are intended to give the appearance of action.

In fact, one might almost discern a vicious circle created by the volumes of new regulations and procedures.

If followed faithfully, they paralyze the public service with red tape and delays, forcing the politicians and their pliable public service lackeys to break them to get anything done, leading to more corruption and scandal, followed by the announcement and implementation of even more new rules, followed by more paralysis, etc., etc.

It would be refreshing for once to see politicians respond, not with new rules, but with a call for proper enforcement of the existing ones.

But doing one's duty doesn't make for as positive press as sweeping government clean with a new broom!

Boisclair: Maintient-Il Le Droit?

This is why the Conservative Party should not only write off Quebec, but also help it out the door ASAP:

The next provincial election is still two years away, but (new Parti Quebecois leader Andre) Boisclair has battles almost as big to fight within his own party.

The PQ leadership race was hard-fought and divisive, with a split between Boisclair's supporters and party hardliners who believe the 39-year-old leader leans too far to the right.

And though Boisclair promised to "seek a mandate to hold a referendum on Quebec sovereignty as soon as possible" -- that might not be good enough for hardline sovereigntists who were frustrated over Bouchard's wait for "winning conditions" to materialize before holding a referendum.

"It sounds too familiar to those who heard Mr. Bouchard wait and wait for winning conditions," said Kahane in Montreal. "They don't want to hear that. They want to hear that he is going to hold a referendum immediately, and if there is a "Yes" vote then, no matter what, have a unilateral declaration of independence."

You saw it here first: a homosexual freebaser who suggests a little financial restraint and keeps playing coy about the timing of a secession referendum is too far to the right for Quebeckers.

If Quebec thinks that the rest of Canada is stifling its rightful aspirations, it's doing the same to ours as well.

Let's hope that Boisclair leads the PQ to victory, in the next election and referendum. Because if the choice is between Quebec or Alberta leaving, we know whose departure would weaken Canada the most, economically, politically, and culturally.

Death Worship

This man is the biggest hypocrite on the face of the Earth.

"We can't be breeding right now," says Les Knight. "It's obvious that the intentional creation of another [human being] by anyone anywhere can't be justified today."

Knight is the founder of the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement, an informal network of people dedicated to phasing out the human race in the interest of the health of the Earth. Knight, whose convictions led him to get a vasectomy in the 1970s, when he was 25, believes that the human race is inherently dangerous to the planet and inevitably creates an unsustainable situation.

"As long as there's one breeding couple," he says cheerfully, "we're in danger of being right back here again. Wherever humans live, not much else lives. It isn't that we're evil and want to kill everything -- it's just how we live."

But one wonders just how willing their more zealous members would be to carry out their mission on others.

We should not be too quick to dismiss VHEMT as just another band of California crackpots. The violent rhetoric of groups such as Earth First and PETA has inspired their more unstable or psychopathic members to terrorism. And perhaps even more disturbingly, a less inflammatory version of that same rhetoric could inspire mainstream environmentalists who are already disposed to regarding mankind as a somewhat invasive species.

VHEMT is a hate group, just like the Ku Klux Klan or Nation of Islam; it only differs by hating not one race but all races.

Do Not Breach The Social Peace

I did not post this article about a poll that was not taken because the Supreme Court and Liberal Party have both declared that we have social peace on this issue which has been settled for all time:

OTTAWA, November 15, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A Focus Canada poll conducted in October 2005 by Environics Research found that 64% of Canadian women support legal protection of unborn children before birth.

The poll, commissioned by LifeCanada, the national education pro-life group, asked 2,024 Canadians several questions on abortion.

Among women, 34% supported legal protection from conception on, versus 24% among men. Nineteen percent of women and 20% of men supported legal protection after three months of gestation and 11% among men and women supported legal protection after six months gestation.

"For the fourth year in a row, we see that the majority of Canadians do not support the existing situation in Canada in which there is no legal protection for babies in the womb," said Joanne Byfield, president of LifeCanada. "Although abortion is held up as an important right for women, we see from this poll that in fact women are far more supportive of protecting human life in the womb."

I have not mentioned that this poll, which was not taken about an issue that no one wants to debate, gives the lie to the claim that women will shy away from any party that might suggest that some of its members do not share the broadly accepted social consensus about this dead issue.

You could, I suppose, click on this link to Lifesite to read the rest of the poll results, but then you might be left with the false impression that there is any serious discontent with the status quo.

And we can't have people wantonly breaching the social peace, not when the government has so much work to do to maintain it.

Votes For All

Quebec society has fallen long and hard since Maurice Duplessis and the Catholic Church held sway. The election of openly homosexual cocaine user Andre Boisclair as leader of the Parti Quebecois is further confirmation that Quebec is challenging the Netherlands for top of the league tables in social degeneracy.

But at least one Quebec tradition has survived the Quiet Revolution: good old-fashioned vote rigging:

At least one dog and a plant have reportedly joined thousands of party members in casting votes for a new Parti Québécois leader.

The Globe and Mail quotes a source in one of the leadership campaigns as saying that a long-haired Chihuahua and a plant were able to register as PQ members.

They also received all the necessary credentials needed to cast a telephone vote, the source says.

The dog - Pixelle Daoust - even received a birthday card recently from interim party leader Louise Harel.

The Globe said the source, who produced the dog's PQ membership card, says Pixelle voted for former PQ cabinet minister Andre Boisclair.

The plant - using the name Gilbert Laplante - voted for the environmentalist candidate Jean Ouimet, with frontrunner Boisclair as its second choice.

The Union Nationale were unimaginative amateurs by comparison in limiting voter recruitment to the cemeteries.

Joe Who? Joe Why?

Joe Clark, like the Bourbons of old France, has learned nothing and forgotten nothing:

Former Prime Minister Joe Clark says there are no credible future leaders in any of the opposition parties.

Speaking in Winnipeg, Clark warned the current tactics of the opposition to force Prime Minister Paul Martin could backfire.

The opposition coalition is insisting Martin call an election by February or they will force a Christmas campaign.

Clark told a newspaper: "The opposition has the burden of proving either that there is some reason to move more quickly or that, if an election happens precipitously, it's not their fault."

Clark adds because there is no strong candidate this time among the opposition leaders, that could mean another minority government.

Sound advice from the man for whom a majority is less than one-half but greater than two-thirds. Would that he had followed it himself in 1979; Trudeau wouldn't have come back and we wouldn't have had the Charter of Rights of Freedoms to hamstring our repatriated Constitution.

Please go away, Joe. Your contributions actually subtract from the national debate. And for a former Prime Minister, that is a sad condemnation.

The latest SES poll on Adscam reveals why Canadians don't want an election:

Sun Media-SES Research poll finds that 43% of Canadians tar the entire Liberal Party with the kickback scheme that ripped off millions of taxpayer dollars -- a 13% jump since the spring.

Another 48% believe only a "few bad apples" are to blame for the corruption -- a 10% slide over the same period.

The poll also found that while fewer Canadians think Prime Minister Paul Martin is exclusively to blame for AdScam, a majority believe he shares responsibility for the scandal with his predecessor, Jean Chretien.

On May 4, 29% thought Martin was solely to blame for the scandal compared to only 8% on Nov. 13, two weeks after Gomery tabled his report. Another 24% fingered Chretien, while 54% of Canadians believe the pair is mutually responsible.

Paul Martin has spent the past two years denying that he had anything to do with Jean Chretien's government. While voter memories are short, they are not blank, and most of them have recollections of Paul Martin's years as the greatest finance minister who absolutely ever was.

Just as the Liberals kept going about the "Alliance-Conservatives" during the last election, the Conservatives should talk about the "Chretien-Martin" Liberals.

Because in mnay people's minds, that's what they are.

Paul Martin will now have to atone for Jean Chretien's sins. And that's why we're being reminded that Canadians don't want an election.

An Assault On The Reader's Intelligence

Whenever matters of race or a certain religion are central to any controversial story in today's press, the MSM either finds a way to blame the white folks, or if there are none to blame, it purges or buries any mention of race.

As is happening with today's report about the gang of students at a Toronto Catholic high school who terrorized and sexually assaulted a girl at the school for months on end.

So informed readers have developed the same sort of forensic skills that readers of the old Soviet press did to get the truth behind the story.

Let's take this Toronto Star article on the incident:

Sixteen high school students have been charged after a 16-year-old girl told police she was sexually assaulted in a case of extreme bullying that went on for more than a year.

The victim, a student at James Cardinal McGuigan Catholic high school in the Keele St.-Finch Ave. W. area of Toronto, was allegedly forced by male students to commit sexual acts in stairwells and washrooms, both inside the school and in a neighbouring fast-food restaurant.

Anyone familiar with Toronto can make an educated guess about the ethnic background of the alleged assailants from the address.

Yesterday, plainclothes officers stepped up their efforts and went to the school where they arrested two female students and 12 male students — two of whom are adults. Students were led away in handcuffs and taken to 31 Division where they were in custody last night. The males were charged with criminal harassment; the two females with threatening bodily harm. While the names of the accused youths cannot be released, police have not identified the two adults.

Translation: the cops knew which gang they belonged to and leaned on the two weakest links. And it wasn't the girls, because they're probably the girlfriends of the gang leaders and would be stupidly loyal, or scared, or both, to rat them out.

At a news conference yesterday, police said the accused do not have any gang ties, although some are known to police.

So long as they are only alleged assailants, they will also only be alleged gang members. Everybody is alleged until proven guilty, even when they're caught with the smoking gun.

Despite reports from students that the accused are innocent and have been unfairly targeted because they are black and the girl is white, Insp. Tom McIlhone told reporters that race played no part in the arrests.

This is what's commonly known in the business as a "buried lead". If the Star's editors had put this in the lead, their switchboard would have been jammed with angry calls ten minutes after the papers hit the streets.

Of course race played no part in the arrests. They're equal opportunity perp haters.

The North York high school has hired an extra vice-principal, four extra hall monitors and called a parent meeting scheduled for tomorrow to discuss student safety. But what may help even more is to give teachers more training in how to spot the signs of students suffering from sexual harassment, said education director Kevin Kobus of the Toronto Catholic District School Board.

The board's bureaucrats are now engaged in serious CYA mode. None of these actions will likely make the school safer, but they have now been seen to do something. Even though they know they can't do anything.

A new administrator needs something to administrate, and new programs and policies can always be created to justify his continued existence. And unless someone takes positive action to eliminate his position, it will continue, forever and aye.

But another Catholic school trustee said James Cardinal McGuigan has a reputation that drives students to other nearby schools. McGuigan had 50 people at a recent open house; St. Basil-the-Great, about 4 kilometres away, had about 750, said Sal Piccininni.

Note that the Star left out in which direction St. Basil's is four klicks away from Cardinal McGuigan. A quick look at the Google map shows that St. Basil's has country clubs on either side--and country club members will go to the wall to keep housing projects from fouling the sight line to the 19th hole.

What the Star has done is not censorship, not in the crude sense we understand. It is selective concealment and de-emphasis, which reports the facts while denying the uninformed reader the context through which to interpret them.

In effect, it's winking and nudging as a signal to the informed reader, who will know how and what to read between the lines, while leaving the rest of the public no better informed than they were before.

It is a cynical game that the press plays with its audience every day, one that belies their claim to acting as a force for positive social change.

You can't follow the game if you can't tell the score.

Lord's Day Passing?

Open action in the MSM campaign to depose Stephen Harper has been scaled back of late in preparation for the election propaganda blitz, but already one of the main parts of the plan has suffered a severe setback:

New Brunswick's Opposition Liberals won a crucial provincial byelection Monday, raising questions about the political future of Conservative Premier Bernard Lord.

Liberal Ed Doherty won the vote in the Saint John Harbour riding in a landslide, with Conservative Michelle Hooton a distant second.

....

The riding was held for 14 years by former NDP leader Elizabeth Weir, who quit the seat to accept an energy conservation post offered by Lord's Conservative government.

The Liberals now have 27 seats in the legislature to the Tories' 28.

Bernard Lord is one MLA's heartbeat away from becoming a has-been. Now the MSM will have to find another telegenic bilingual empty suit to woo Quebec, soothe frightened Ontarians, and ignore the West.

Tax Cut Ups

Ralph Goodale's budget in all but name (without the new shoes) is not only a crude pre-election bribe, but it's also one few Canadians who don't fall inside the Liberals' coveted demographics would even benefit from.

Here's how those $30 billion personal tax cuts work out:

Rate for lowest income tax bracket to be reduced one percentage point to 15 per cent, retroactive to last Jan. 1.

— One percentage point reduction to each of the middle tax rates by 2010.

— Increase in the income level at which the top tax rate applies, starting in 2010.

— Immediate $500 increase to the basic personal amount of income all Canadians can earn without paying federal tax.

— A Working Income Tax Benefit for low-income earners starting in 2008.

The poor people who might otherwise vote NDP get their tax cut now. The top tax bracket, whose voters are reliably Liberal, especially in Ontario (contrary to the Liberals' own rhetoric) can wait a while.

But Wimpy will gladly pay the middle class in five years for their votes today, after another election will have intervened.

In any event, this will all be irrelevant in a week's time.

The Los Angeles Times has assigned a reporter full-time to covering the pornography industry.

Not to be outdone, the New York Times hired a male truck stop prostitute as a freelancer, only to discover that he might have been as fictional a creation as Jayson Blair's articles.

How long before Gerald Hannon starts gracing the Globe and Mail's editorial pages?

These freaks would never have made their way into a newsroom run by real reporters decades ago, men (mostly) who had worked their way up from the lower and lower-middle classes and understood what the common man wanted to read.

The elite college graduates who grew up in comfortable upper-middle or upper class homes and cut their teeth on so-called cutting-edge college papers, full of left-wing artsy and political drivel, as well as disgusting sex columns, have no idea why nobody wants to read what have become campus papers with multi-million copy circulations.

And until they stop hiring j-school graduates (of which, alas, I am one) and start hiring people who actually know something about their subjects, they won't be worth reading.

Jacques Chirac Channels Jimmy Carter

Remember all the screaming in the media after Hurricane Katrina because President Bush didn't drop everything, jump on Air Force One and make the customary round of useless photo ops?

Jacques Chirac has waited eighteen days to address the French nation after the outbreak of an insurrection, no less, and everybody's giving him a pass.

"We will respond by being firm, by being fair and by being faithful to the values of France," the president said in his national address on Monday.

"These events bear witness to a deep malaise."

Chirac has been largely absent from the public eye as parts of Paris and other French cities burned through the night for 18 days, and thousands of cars and buildings were set on fire by young people, mostly Muslim.

The 72-year-old used a spokesman on Nov. 9 to announce the revival of a state of emergency law to crush the unrest.

Last week, Chirac made an admission of failure, saying the government has not acted quickly in tackling racial discrimination.

Democratic leaders address the people promptly; monarchs withdraw to the palace in dignified silence. Chirac's seclusion might have been befitting of the Bourbons; it is unbecoming of a democratically elected president.

Chirac might have conceivably prevented the insurrection from spreading had he spoken to the nation on the first night, condemned the insurgents as treasonous cowards, and pledged to crush the rebellion with all possible force.

Instead, he begs forgiveness of the rioters for discrimination and offers bribes.

His reference to "malaise" reminds one of Jimmy Carter. And in his response to France's greatest crisis in decades, he has been just as pathetic.

He may as well have stayed at home.

Eyesores Against The Mansours

A recent outbreak of anti-Lebanese graffiti in the Halifax area has me wondering which group of Lebanese the vandal(s) are referring to.

If they're complaining about the Christian Lebanese who've been there for more than a century, I'd be surprised, because they're regarded as real Nova Scotians by now. Everybody knows an Abbass or Toulany or Jebailey.

If it's the Muslim Lebanese who make up most of the new arrivals, I wouldn't be, because all I've heard from folks back home is how much worse they are than the ordinary Lebanese for buying up stuff in bulk at Wal-Mart to resell and stuffing their women in potato sacks:

Residents of a Dartmouth, Nova Scotia neighbourhood woke up Sunday morning to anti-Lebanese graffiti scrawled on more than 20 businesses and homes stretching across several blocks.

Many of them began working quickly to remove the offensive messages from the walls.

The messages contained racial slurs and politically charged statements, many too offensive to publish. They were hand-written in magic marker and appeared to be carefully conceived and well-scripted.

"Isn't it nice how their children mix with the white folks of Halifax," read one of the messages. Another described Lebanese people as "non-Christian scum," and claimed that local Lebanese-Canadian owned businesses are "turning the neighbourhoods into ghettos."

That's north Dartmouth and Highcrime Highfield Park for you: a white trash trailer park without the trailers. One of them probably got ripped off at the Green Gables and reacted in the best way he knew how.

Hardly a sign of a great anti-Lebanese, anti-Muslim hate crime wave. And most locals would be offended at the suggestion that they're ignorant bigots: they know which bunch of Lebanese to hate.

Goodale's Goodie Bag

Although it was only five short months ago that the Liberals passed the last budget, they had such a good time doing it that they want to do it again, right now:

The beleaguered Liberal government will promise significant cuts to personal income taxes and a sprinkling of corporate tax reductions Monday in a pre-election mini-budget that offers something for everyone.

Finance Minister Ralph Goodale will promise to lighten the tax burden on Canadians, reiterate an earlier plan to cut billions from corporate taxes and introduce other business tax changes as part of a broader plan to boost the economy, sources say.

....

Goodale is expected to announce in Monday's document that Ottawa is on track to record a surplus as high as $12 billion for the current fiscal year ending March 31, 2006 — far more than the $4 billion surplus he had predicted in last February's budget.

That makes tax cuts and new education spending affordable while still leaving some money for a rainy day or debt reduction, sources say.

He'll also outline increased spending for post-secondary education and skills training; research and development; and infrastructure dollars plus administrative moves to reduce red tape for businesses.

Just don't expect the tax cuts to leave much cash in your wallet.

Goodale had to cover his left flank a few months ago by pulling out the corporate tax cuts and promising some extra money, eventually, to the medicare monopoly. Now he's hoping the Tories will be foolish enough to follow the NDP's previous path by restoring the tax cuts.

Or at least, get the Tory faithful to pressure Stephen Harper to back down for a few more months.

Which only goes to show that Goodale doesn't understand the depth of our committment to having an election. He can't buy us off the way he could have bought off the NDP. We're ready to go in the middle of a prairie winter, no less, to kick this corrupt lot out.

He could abolish income tax and announce a $1 trillion deficit and we'd still bring him down.

We're not dumb enough to be bribed over and over again with our own money.

Stop Or I'll Say Stop Again

The three opposition party leaders continue to play a dangerous game of chicken with the Liberals:

The opposition leaders are demanding that Prime Minister Paul Martin agree to make an election call in January or face a no-confidence motion that could bring down his government in November.

Conservative Leader Stephen Harper, NDP Leader Jack Layton and Bloc Québécois Leader Gilles Duceppe issued the ultimatum after meeting in Ottawa on Sunday, saying the Liberals had lost their moral authority to govern.

....

The Tories and the Bloc agreed to support an NDP motion – which could be introduced as early as Tuesday – that will ask Martin to launch a campaign in the first week of January, two months earlier than the date for an election call favoured by the Prime Minister.

It would send voters to the polls in February, shortly after the release of the second report into the sponsorship scandal is due to be released.

Harper said that, if Martin refuses the demand, he would – as Opposition Leader – introduce a no-confidence motion in the following week.

For the love of God, stop pussyfooting around!

The Liberals, given the choice between option A and option B, will always find a way to choose option C.

Giving them another week to wait for a non-confidence vote gives them time, in theory anyway, to break the weak NDP link in the chain..

How hard can it be to say that a non-confidence vote will be held on a certain day, come what may, with no loopholes?

Playing games with constantly shifting deadlines for constantly changing ultimata makes the opposition look like they're the ones who aren't serious about the nation's business.

Just vote!

Two Days To Doomsday?

It could be all over for the Liberals in the next 48 hours if this afternoon's meeting of the three opposition party leaders leads to an agreement to bring down the government, CTV News reports:

Appearing on CTV's Question Period, John Reynolds, co-chair of the Conservative campaign, said there is no contradiction between his party's contention that the Liberals have lost the moral right to govern, while at the same time they attempt to delay an election until after Christmas.

"I think the leader of the NDP has made a reasonable offer to get around the whole idea of a Christmas election, although the Liberals in the past, in 1979, did not mind a Christmas election," he said, adding that his party could still defeat the government Tuesday.

However, he would not definitively say the government would be defeated Tuesday, saying that the Opposition strategy would be determined later Sunday during the leaders' meeting.

The time for parliamentary games is over. The Liberals will not accept defeat on anything other than an absolutely clear and unambiguous vote of non-confidence, with no proviso for delaying an election past the Christmas holidays.

It is not even certain that the Governor General, as a pliant appointee not noted for her knowledge of basic constitutional law, would follow constitutional convention and dissolve Parliament or call upon Stephen Harper to form a government.

The opposition cannot leave open the Liberals the smallest loophole through which to squeeze. If they do, the Liberals will blame them for playing games just to hold up the nation's business, even though the Liberals will playing the same games right along with them.

Vote them up, vote them down, but vote!

Desecration

The media has been ever so quick to remind us that these "impoverished French youths of North African ancestry" are not motivated in the slightest by religious considerations when choosing their targets.

Jan Sobieski might have seen matters a little differently, however:

Rocks and bottles were thrown at a Polish chapel in Houdain in the north of France shattering stained glass and destroying the doors of the holy place. There is destruction, according to the Vicar of the local representative of the Polish Catholic mission, however nothing was stolen (there was no robbery).

The Vicar, Tomasz (Thomas) Tobyf told PAP (Polish Press Agency) that the attack took place Thursday night or early Friday morning. The attackers during the attack burned and ruined the chapel itself as well as smashing stained glass with bottles and rocks. Next, they broke into the chapel and smashed the doors with 45 pound rocks. All of the equipment was ruined including an organ which is practically totalled. The tabarnacle was not destroyed.

Father Tobyf stated that the mayor had said that they would take care of the chapel's security, but the Polish Felician nuns cleaned up the mess sufficiently to allow the next French language mass to take place on Saturday.

The NMP Holy Mother Chapel in Houdain was constructed in the 1960's by miners.

Father Tobyf has stated that the destruction was a complete act of mindless vandalsim. He suspects that the instigators were at least 14 year olds since younger vandals would be unable to lift such heavy stones. He further excludes any possibility of any religious motivation.

During the last two weeks in France there has been unrest, instigated primarily by "young youths" in immigrant communities, chiefly Muslim, who have already attacked three churches however there has been no reaction from the government nor the media.

Will Notre Dame or Chartres have to go up in flames before even the most diehard secularist French realize they're targets of a religious war?
