Bloc Buster Deal

Gilles Duceppe has just freed the Liberal Party from its dilemma: back the budget and look weak, or beat the budget and force an election without a leader, a campaign warchest and a pile of public resentment.

And he's just revived the dead horse of the Tories being in bed with the Bloc.

Not that it much matters right now, but Bill Graham must be secretly relieved to see Duceppe grant the government an effective two-year lease on life by supporting a budget in the hopes of seeing the fiscal imbalance resolved.

The Liberals crawl into bed with the Bloc when it suits their interests, especially when the two parties pile on the anti-Bush and anti-American rhetoric, opposing the Iraq war, backing Kyoto, opposing BMD, and supporting all this nanny-state stuff. Talk about chutzpah when the Liberals lambaste the Bloc for getting into bed with the Tories.

Its real easy to shoot your mouth off when you know you don't have to fight

Graham's mad and so will Layton be because they get no say in this budget. And why should the CPC write a budget so the liberals endorse it. They are their biggest rival. The don't want the liberals to take credit for contributing to Parliament. I say keep them out of it. Not only that, with the Bloc endorsement, the Conservatives can win more seats in Quebec.

On the other hand, the Bloc's endorsement effectively says that the budget is good for Quebec, thus building up the Tories even more, at the expense of the Bloc no less
