No GST Cut For You

What the right hand giveth, the left hand taketh away.

How dare Torontonians expect the city fathers to let them selfishly keep more of their own money, when they know best how to spend it on making Toronto the wonderfully serene, efficient, hygienic, tolerant and diverse multicultural model city that it is!

You should be happy to pay for the privilege of living in the Centre of the Universe!

And the next time Bobbie McLa-La-Land says that Dippers (like David Miller) are not tax mongers, you can politely tell him to stuff it.

What's the matter, don't you like Harper's plan. He did say that he's freeing up federal tax dollars so that provinces and municipalities could raise theirs in order to take care of themselves and stop looking to Ottawa for handouts.

As always, McLa-La-Land fails to show how the NDP isn't a tax-happy group.

would have to be approved by city council. miller hasn't even commented publicly on this. not a new story, just speculation and spin.

"our" money is only being held in trust by us for the gov't not the other way around, at least thats what NDP types seem to beleive

Linking this to the NDP is your delusion, Sureclown. Nowhere in this post, the post it links to or the original article does it connect this to the NDP. And the reason is because it has nothing to do with the NDP. So why should I wrestle with the demons that haunt your fevered imagination?

It seems the Toronto Sun story isn't telling the whole truth either.

Mayor David Miller also told reporters Friday that it would be "impossible" to provide the one per cent tax cut on all programs.

"You can't send out cheques to refund people for 40 cents, it costs more than that to send the cheque. You're asking the city to spend more money than the refunds are worth," he said.

Miller added the refund is only a problem this year because the cut in the GST comes halfway through the fiscal year.

Next year, he said, city fees will be recalculated to reflect the new rate.

Funny it took you two replies to come to that argument... not that it changes what David Miller and his circus are, does it?

I like his explanation though. Perhaps everybody will use the same excuse... sorry, let me repeat that word... EXCUSE that he is using. Not freakin' likely considering the small number of NDP minded mayors in Canada. I guess other cities/towns might recognize Miller's methane dispensing for what it is no matter how many Dippers turn a blind eye.

I imagine alot of other municipalities will take the same route.

One more reason to hate Harper for taking away my income taxcut. Miller never could have gotten his hands on that.

This is what you get when you have yet another government more interested in optics than good policy.
